Secret Samoan Discovery!
After 12 years of discovering waves in Samoa, Wayne Ryan and the Maninoa Surf Team realised the long term belief in secret waves on some outer islands and reefs in Samoa. For years Wayne had watched waves in the distance and studied reef maps. The problem was in the early days, not only lack of knowledge, but the appropriate boats and equipment to safely search. 8 years ago Wayne commissioned the camp surf guide to take a boat to these regions. The report came back from the guide of extraordinary potential, yet they did not surf that day due to a tiger shark sighting. Several other sightings of the tiger shark over the next few weeks and a fatal attack on a diver closed the book on this region. Many years have gone by and with the knowledge that the shark attack was the first in Samoan history & caused by a diver baiting the water to attract sharks gave the crew a new chance & confidence to once again search for perfection. Late last year 15 surfers who were staying at Maninoa surf camp decided to take the challenge and were richly rewarded with a perfect left and right horseshoe reef. Don't ask us to tell you where these waves are. For now it's the secret of the 15 who braved the search. Nevertheless, there are still many waves to be discovered in Samoa, so come and join us at Maninoa and let us share our secrets with you.Maninoa Surf Camp... Dream on!
